Last week, I was gifted these two books by a friend. Thank you Ian. The contents of the book regularly surface in our conversations.
Here is why I would recommend these two books to everyone. I have also included one of my selected quotes from others in making a case for these books.
Meditations by Marcus Aurelius
Some of you might have already received a copy of this book from me as a gift which shows how much I admire this book. A book I have read many times over and even published some commentary on it.
It is the context, that makes this book that makes it even more meaningful. Written by the then Emperor of Rome. The most powerful man of his time. However, it is interesting because this book was never written to be published. It condenses the intellectual journey he took and the learnings he had along the way.
Employ your time in improving yourself by other men's writings, so that you shall gain easily what others have laboured hard for - Socrates
The Presidents by Iain Dale
It provides a great brief overview of the presidents of the United States. This will give you a great start so you can decide which eras or personalities you want to read more about. The book enables you to trace history and evaluate events through this unique lens. It helps explore strategies, politics, leadership and more.
Study history, study history. In history lie all the secrets of statecraft - Winston Churchill
